The Novels

As of right now, five books are planned by the author. Descriptions of each are displayed below, though they are subject to change.

The Magic Calendar is the first novel in the Magic Calendar series. Brett Parkender, an energetic young boy of twelve, has both wished for and dreaded the same thing for as long as he can remember—adventure. When the picture hanging in the Parkenders’ hallway spontaneously transforms into a window leading to the realm of Taleti, Brett discovers that his best dreams and his worst nightmares can, and will, come true.

As he soon observes, Taleti is a land filled with good and evil, joy and despair, love and hate. It is a land inhabited by dragons, giant insects, trolls, monsters, and more. However, the primary inhabitants are dwarves, a once-happy people now enslaved under a cruel master, Yetiwan the terrible, who dictates their entire way of life. The one Thing needed to set the dwarves free is locked up in an impenetrable fortress known as the Vaults.

In a world where all other hope falters, Brett and his dwarven friends must trust in a God who actually cares about his children and their problems, no matter how big or small the challenges are.

The Rod of Power Emerges is the second novel in the Magic Calendar series. Hungry again for adventure, Brett and his sister Micha return to Taleti where they join King Ponway and his party on a quest to search for and make peace with the long-missing race of Illmanakans. Upon completion of the endeavor, peace and prosperity are abundant over all of Taleti, but when the Sword of Kings, the Map of Wesilas, and the Hearing Stone of Illian disappear all at once, a dark plan begins to unfold.

Soon Brett learns that the ancient and destructive Rod of Power itself has reemerged from its hiding place within Taleti. Brett is entrusted with the nearly impossible task of hiding the Magic Calendar from the Rod’s bearer, for it is rumored that the Magic Calendar can be destroyed only by this one thing.

Underneath of Quilibius is the third novel in the Magic Calendar series. Brett’s cousin, Joel, learns about Taleti the hard way when his beautiful new car drives through a portal in a country road tunnel and sinks into the Taletian sea. Brett and Cousin Joel find that their accident has coincided with the murder of King Ponway and the robbery of the Magic Calendar. Wesilas seems to have seized the throne for himself and captured Ponway’s son Welfar, the true heir to the throne, though Brett quickly discovers that there is more happening than what is apparent.

One by one, Brett witnesses his friends disappear. Some are dead, some have betrayed him, some are missing, and some are under the enemy’s watch. Soon it is up to Brett and Mr. Knowledge alone to retrieve the Magic Calendar and restore peace to Taleti before the night of Quilibius arrives.

A Triangle with Four Corners is the fourth novel in the Magic Calendar series, and is a prequel to Book One. Marzul has cleverly found a way of escaping his prison and threatens to destroy the remaining dwarves in Taleti. To inhibit Marzul’s escape, the famed and idolized adventurer Illian is bestowed with magical powers and is given specific directions to rescue the Great Phoenix from captivity in the Land of Dragons. However, Illian is a dwarf with a mind of his own. Quickly, he concocts a plan to destroy Marzul by transporting the menace to the distant future instead. With the help of his companion, the soon-to-be Mr. Knowledge, Illian carries out his plan, completely obliterating the cities of Watertown and Stilzwagen in the process. After his tainted victory, he abuses his powers and creates havoc in Taleti, trying to amass personal pleasure at the expense of others. Can Illian overcome his pride and follow God’s directions instead of doing things his own way?

The Stairs of No End is the fifth novel in the Magic Calendar series, set two thousand years after the events of Book Three. A mistreated dwarf named Matilock has lived without any friends for the entire twenty-five years of his life. This changes when he meets Kirzak, one of the five great Masters of the Empire of Talnum. Together, the two trek northwards from the city of Stilzwagen to the lost mountain of Hope, where they will find the legendary Stairs of No End (pictured on the home page).

When the journey ends in Kirzak’s accidental death, Matilock is accused of murder by another Talnum Master, and is sentenced to the worst punishment imaginable—the Death Drag. With limited time until his execution, Matilock must receive hope and guidance from a mysterious wanderer.
